Main conclusion - 2; premise for main conlusion - 3, 6; subconclusion - 6; premise for sub conclusion - 1, 4, 5.

Alwyn - 2008/11/17 05:08:08

did u reword the first part of the sentence?

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:08:43

What is your format Ash?
I really am starting to think this is a hit and miss game

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:09:29

So I have: Main concl = 1, premises for main concl = 2, 4, 5b and 6; sub concl = 2 (premise for this = 3) and 5 b (premise = 5a)
It's very complicated and yes, I did reword...I seem to want to do that all the time so I can get down to the meat of the argument which is probably my problem - I'm taking these text-book argument much to seriously!!

Alwyn - 2008/11/17 05:11:05

u have to start with the BECAUSE...as it is a premise indicator

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:11:55

kylie i can't see 6 linked with 1

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:12:49

If I include conclusion idicators look at it like this:

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:13:01

I think we musn't panic though. When we did assignment 1 just now I realised that actually more than half the questions were straightforward definition ones, so even if we mess up on argument analysys we'll probably be OK. And who knows - we might even get the analysis right in the exam.

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:13:56

Psychiatric records, including even the identification of a person as a patient, must be protected with extreme care. In therefore confidentiality is essential to psychiatric treatment.
This does not make much sense. Now look at this:

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:14:10

agree, i don't think we have time to answer 50Qs- 2mins each

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:14:22

Yes, you're right Kylie. Actually 6 fits in better with 5a (because...) as a premise for 5b (the psychiatrist must be circumspect)

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:15:14

Psychiatric records, including even the identification of a person as a patient, must be protected with extreme care. Therefore the welfare of the patient must be a continuing consideration.
Fits much better.

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:16:29

SO it says (because of the sensitive and private nature of the info) (5a), and BECAUSE (the welfare of the patient must be a continuing consideration) (6) (he/she must be circumspect....)(5b)

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:17:01

You could be right Ash.

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:17:19

and following that: statement 1?

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:17:26

But again, I am hoping that the options in MCQ will give us some guidance.

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:17:51

TRUE - we hopefully have that in our favour!

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:19:30

I don't think I am ready, but I also don't think that I am about to know all the answers by heart. I don't think I ever will :(

Alwyn - 2008/11/17 05:19:54

yep

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:20:00

why does it say that " there is no correct answer to this question..." p7 tut103

Alwyn - 2008/11/17 05:20:12

this is def not an esay module for me

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:20:40

I don't know.

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:20:57

what are the steps in an argument evaluation?

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:21:18

One thing that has driven me made with this module, is if you are going to ask a question, at least give a decent answer.

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:21:35

understand the meaning
identify the thesis
locate the reasons that support it
determine whether reasons offered ins support of the conc
are acceptable

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:23:09

Amazingly - even though we didn't agree 100% on the analysis i feel a bit better about it. Got a chance to try out some mental wrangling and to think about conclusions and subconclusions a bit harder than I have prviously. Thanks so much guys. I need to go now. Still have GED to run through tonight - writing both tomorrow. All the best. See you in the post-exam dissection!

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:23:33

best of luck with both Ash

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:23:39

Good luck for both your exams.

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:23:45

i've also got to go, it's late

Alwyn - 2008/11/17 05:23:47

is tomorrow the last paper for all of u?

Ashleigh - 2008/11/17 05:24:02

YES! Hallelujah!

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:24:08

I think we applied the steps in argumentative evaluation, so I am happy that we actually suceeded.

Irene - 2008/11/17 05:24:09

kylie and Alwyn, thanks it was good. g luck

Kylie - 2008/11/17 05:24:17
